Blog Tour + Review: The Missing by C.L.Taylor

You love your family. They make you feel safe. You trust them. Or do you…?

When fifteen-year-old Billy Wilkinson goes missing in the middle of the night, his mother, Claire Wilkinson, blames herself. She's not the only one. There isn't a single member of Billy's family that doesn't feel guilty. But the Wilkinson’s are so used to keeping secrets from one another that it isn't until six months later, after an appeal for information goes horribly wrong, that the truth begins to surface.

Claire is sure of two things – that Billy is still alive and that her friends and family had nothing to do with his disappearance.

A mother's instinct is never wrong. Or is it?

Hello, guys. Today is my stop on the great Cally Taylor's blog tour for her super gripping psychological thriller The Missing. My first book from this amazing author was a chick-lit story Heaven Can Wait, which I absolutely adored and proudly own, and I was very surprised when she went into another so different genre. But she managed well. The Lie, The Accident, and now The Missing, they are all among the best on the bookshelves. I must say that I was a little bit skeptical about this book, but when I started reading, I was the one missing from the rest of the world.

The plot centers around the Wilkinson family, whose son Billy disappears in the middle of the night. The mother and rest of the family go through a real nightmare. A fifteen-years-old boy is missing, police do everything they can to find him, the media is involved, but Billy is nowhere to be seen. As the days go by, the chances to find him alive are getting smaller and smaller. Everyone in the family is on the edge, everyone hopes for the best but as the time flies, expects the worst. I don't know what is worse, to find the loved one dead or not to know what happened to him.

As the time flies, days turn into weeks and weeks into months. No news about Billy. Claire, the mother, starts her own investigation. Soon she finds things about her family that she didn't know before. It seems that everyone in the family has some secrets. Nothing is as it looks like.

But a mother knows one thing: her boy must be alive somewhere and she can trust her husband and son because family matters no matter what.

But what if she is wrong?

I was really impressed by the author's storytelling. The character of Claire is so well written, I could easily find myself walking into her shoes and feel her fears. A mother of missing child goes through hell, not knowing what happened and assuming everything. Thousands of children are gone missing every day and very few are found alive and brought back home. My heart goes to their families.

Claire loves her sons to the bits, but she is fully aware that they are another persons with their his own beliefs and wishes. She thinks she has the control in the family but she is not aware of the things that happen behind her back. When her youngest goes missing, everyone assumes that is a typical teenage runaway. But not her. She knows that something happened. Something at home that made him go out in the middle of the night, right into the God knows what. And she is scared, scared for her son's life, scared for her family, scared of herself. And fear is the worst enemy.

After this terrific read, I must go back and read The Lie and The Accident. I have no idea how I missed them. 'Cause The Missing is one very realistic and scary story, beautifully written with so many emotions. A gripping story of  a mother who would do anything for her child and secrets behind the closed doors of the family's home. A psychological thriller where the top detective is the mother's endless love. Totally recommended!
